About Us
Having spent 30-years in academia and research, I, the Founder of BiomiCare, realised that people needed to understand their Microbiome Health. People were suffering from Gut related issues and often do not fully understand what dietary interventions or suppliments that they need to take. BiomiCare was created so that people could truly understand their Microbiome Health.
What is our Microbiome?
The term Microbiome is used to describe a specific collection of bacteria, fungi and viruses that exist in a particular environment.
These environments within or on the human body are: colon, skin, mouth, oesophagus and vagina. Our human microbiome is considered as the most important microecosystem living in symbiosis with the human body and is involved in supporting and maintaining our health.
It consists of bacteria, fungi, protozoa & viruses. We have more microbial cells in us and on us that we do of human cells. Therefore it is of no surprise that these microscopic organisms play significant role in terms of our overall health.
Why test our Microbiome?
The Gut Microbiome in particular has been identified and recognized as a crucial determinant of intestinal inflammation and a key player in several chronic inflammatory diseases.
Changes in the gut microbial population can contribute to the onset and progression of IBS, IBD, SIBO, Celiac and other gut related diseases. There is increasing evidence that alterations in gut microbiota composition correlates with intestinal disease.
Our microbiome changes as we age, the infant microbiomes being quite different to for example when compared to a post-menopausal woman. Therefore understanding our microbiome whether young, pregnant or aging, provides us with the knowledge of what works best for each of us to help prevent, alleviate symptoms, or onset or progression of disease.
There is increasing evidence and research indicating that there is a strong relationship between the genetic makeup of a person and their gut microbiome. We at Biomicare have provided some insight into the distinct differences in microbiome profile of individuals whom have specific inherited genetic disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) and gut related issues.
Our genetics also affects functions of our gut microbiome. Thus the benefits and future potential of Microbiome analysis is that it is a non-invasive potential diagnostic tool for specific diseases including type 2 diabetes (T2D) and colorectal cancer (CRC) and many gut related diseases.
